John Cratchley 1.Listen to this music. 2. Read the Book (the companion piece). 3. Evaluate the symbiosis between the two and think about how the creative Muse has miraculously made the whole greater than the sum of the parts. This genre (music and book interaction) is a very exciting process and I think it needs to happen a lot more. This particular combination is a joyous achievement.

about

Empty The Sun is the soundtrack (written by Six Organs Of Admittance) that came with the Joseph Mattson novel of the same name. Joseph and I have long-since been particularly proud of the fiction/music pairing and were ecstatic when the novel was recently featured as a part of LA Times' tournament of "Best LA Novel Ever" (blogs.laweekly.com/arts/2013/01/best_la_novel_ever_joseph_matt.php). Prior to now, this soundtrack was only available if you purchased the novel. I have placed this music here on Bandcamp in order to raise money for Joseph, who has suffered terrible hardships over the last two years.

In 2011 Joseph’s mother was killed by his stepfather and was later convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to prison time. Joseph has accumulated a significant debt load over the course of legal battles in an effort to try to ensure that the man responsible for his mother's death would not be entitled to Joseph's family property. A more elaborate summary of that part of the story can be found at this link (www.wepay.com/donations/help-support-joseph-mattson).

Since then, the stress of the legal battles (not to mention the emotional burden of such an act) finally took its toll in the form of ulcers in Joseph's esophagus and stomach that caused an infection in his pancreas and gall bladder. He has been admitted to the hospital numerous times over the last several months. This has caused an incredible financial hardship as he is unable to work and support himself or his family, including his 10 month old son.

In an effort to help, I am placing some audio online with all proceeds going directly to assist Joseph. Elsewhere on this site you will find a live Six Organs recording from 2009 (previously available only as a European tour CDR). All money goes directly to Joseph's PayPal account in an effort to help him fully heal and get back on his feet.

Thank you for your attention and generosity,
Ben Chasny
